From the Department of Redundancy Department

Daily Laugh!!

Man, this piece of graffiti comes from the Department of Redundancy Department. The fact that this is painted on the side of a Christian school adds to the irony of it.

Highway Signs Needed -- What Every Driver Needs To Learn

(click on photo for a larger image)

Man, you could reduce the amount of road rage if we had highway signs like this and every driver obeyed them.

I am totally amazed at how some people have the brain power to get dressed, go to work, be productive citizens, yet are totally unable of grasping the simple driving concepts outlined in these signs.

A Field of Poison Ivy

Man you wouldn't want to roll around naked in this. This is a whole field of poison ivy. This would cause some severe itching, pain, rashes and a whole lot of discomfort here.

According to WikiPedia: Toxicodendron radicans, better known as poison ivy (older synonyms are Rhus toxicodendron and Rhus radicans), is a poisonous North American plant that is well known for its production of urushiol, a clear liquid compound found within the sap of the plant that causes an itching rash in most people who touch it. The plant is not a true ivy (Hedera).

When I looked up urushiol, I found the following:

Urushiol is an oily organic allergen found in plants of the family Anacardiaceae, especially Toxicodendron spp. (e.g., poison oak, poison ivy, poison sumac). It causes an allergic skin rash on contact, known as urushiol-induced contact dermatitis. The name comes from the Japanese word urushi, which denotes a lacquer produced in East Asia from the sap of the Toxicodendron vernicifluum (Lacquer Tree). The oxidation and polymerization of urushiol in the tree's sap in the presence of moisture allows it to form a hard lacquer, which is used to produce traditional Chinese and Japanese lacquerwares.

I am sure that you would get quite lacquered if you romped in the nude in the pictured field.

Bahamas Newspaper Photo of Corpse in Open Casket

Only in the Bahamas would the newspaper print a photograph of a corpse in an open coffin. Most continental North American newspapers would think that it would be insensitive and maybe a little disturbing to family and friends of the deceased. Not in the Bahamas.

In this picture, a political party worker has died, and the Prime Minister of the Bahamas, and the Deputy Prime Minister are shown at the corpse's open coffin. Weird.

Paul Seguin and his Petroglyph

I don't know who Paul Seguin is, but in 1970 he painted this petroglyph on rock cut near the railway tracks in Chelsea, Quebec Canada.

I am hoping that Paul would Google his name, or somebody will Google "Paul Seguin Chelsea Quebec" and see this.

I would like him to know that I got pleasure out of his painting on the rock and it is still in good shape 41 years later.

Video of Deer Decimating Foliage in the Woods

I was walking through the woods, and I saw this deer ravenously munching on foliage in the woods. Showing almost no fear of humans, it grazed away like a machine, eating the succulent leaves. For those of you that are wondering, this is a buck.

Enjoy.

Barrister Segun Williams. Legal Practitioner, Solicitors & Notaries Property & Civil Law 33 Bode Thomas street, Surulere, Lagos.

My name is Barrister Segun Williams, a legal attorney with great vision, I apologize for this unsolicited nature of my email, this was due to the desperation in me as I have good news for you in regards to the current development of my deceased client Mr. Richard, whose last name is same as yours and a native of your country, he died in the January 27th Bomb blast here in my country, Nigeria, I happen to be his private and most trusted attorney.

However, my client was a wealthy business tycoon formerly working with the Nigerian airways for over 20 years till this date before his sudden death in the January 27th 2002 Bomb blast that rocked his residence in Steven Toba street, G.R.A Ikeja, here in my country. On the 27th of January 2002, my client and his family here in Nigeria {Lady Lydia, Sharon, Charles and Christiana} were involved in a terrible bomb blast that took the lives of innocent souls and unfortunately over 1000 people lost their lives, my client and his family were part of these people.

my client left behind a sum of fifteen million eight hundred thousand {US$15.8 M } United States of American dollars precisely here in the First Bank of Nigeria Plc, which is the main reason why I have to contact you. I have made so many attempts to locate any of my clients relative but all attempts have proved unsuccessful, and since I have been unsuccessful in locating any living relative of my client for over 9 years now, I seek your prompt consent to present you as the next of kin of the deceased because you bare the same surname with him so that the proceeds of his account valued at {USD15.8M } dollars can be transferred into your account and then you and I can share the money according to any agreed ratio as this fund is almost maturing to confiscation.

All I require is your honest co-operation to enable us to see this deal through. I guarantee that this will be executed under legitimate arrangement that will protect you from any breach of the law in your country and here as well. Please provide your full names and your phone numbers in your response and be rest assured that as you comply with my directives, this transaction will be backed up with official documents endorsed by the supreme court of Nigeria to legalize the claim of this transaction.

Finally , I crave your indulgence to present you as the surviving next of kin to the deceased so that we can reap from the fruit of this old mans labour before some group of bad and corrupt leaders in my country get hold of this money for their own selfish interest instead of either donating it to the less privilege or have the fund go its legal way, I guess the best way is for the both of us to take advantage of this opportunity to the betterment of our lives and the lives of those around us including the homeless and less privileged.

I am awaiting your urgent response on this my private email address:

Best regards, Barrister Segun Williams.

I publicize these in the hope that no one falls for them.

The 45 Lessons of Life

Written by Regina Brett, 90 years old, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer News, Cleveland, Ohio.
"To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most requested column I've ever written.
My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.

8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.

16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.

19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.

23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.

24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.

26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?'

27. Always choose life.

28. Forgive everyone everything.

29. What other people think of you is none of your business.

30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.

31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

33. Believe in miracles.

34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.

35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.

37. Your children get only one childhood.

38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.

41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

42. The best is yet to come...

43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

44. Yield.

45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift."

Men In The Kitchen 3

This is the third video in the series of 'Men in the Kitchen' whose central theme is that men are complete idiots when it comes to meals, dishes and kitchens. Madison Avenue ad execs seem to get a lot of mileage out of exploiting the concept.

In this video, the theme of testosterone-driven showing off is explored in the kitchen.

Men In the Kitchen Part 2

Continuing on the theme that men are total klutzes in the kitchen, this video is actually a very clever television ad for IKEA.

There is a bit of nudity in the ad although it is tastefully done and nothing of import really shows.

Although as a man, I could take offense to the media portrayal of men being totally inept in the kitchen, this video actually has a twist and is quite humorous.

Enjoy.

Men In the Kitchen Video Part 1

This video is part one of the media's portrayal of Men in The Kitchen -- generally men are depicted as klutzes in the kitchen.

This one is a television ad for the Sunday Times Herald newspaper, giving away a St. John's Ambulance First Aid Kit with every new subscription. Apparently men don't know how to behave in the kitchen because being in the kitchen is a woman's job.

Enjoy. The humor is worth it.

Book Review -- "The Thank You Economy" by Gary Vaynerchuk

The Thank You Economy by Gary Vaynerchuk is a book about marketing and how a company can succeed in business by caring for its customers, using social media.

I found that the book was not very engaging from the word go, and it spoke in motherhood statements with historical examples that may or may not translate into helpful strategies.

The focus to me is retail, because that is what the author knows, yet I suppose that the argument could be made that it applies to everything that requires a human being to purchase something.

However, the book is a so-so read, and a colleague of mine rated it the same way. It spoke in generalities (despite saying in the liner notes that it didn't) and didn't have a central plan that broke through the layer of abstraction that the book is. It didn't give helpful hints on the practicalities implementing what it recommended.

I would pass on this book for two reasons. First it is not very engaging and secondly it doesn't translate past the abstract into the practical.

Photo of UFO over Marseilles, France

First of all, let me explain that I don't believe in alien life forms visiting earth. I do not believe in spaceships populated by higher beings visiting earth. I do not believe that inter-galactic travel is possible.

However, I did see a glowing white flying disk over the French city of Marseilles on the Mediterranean Sea. It was not an airplane, and although it was moving, it was not moving very fast. It eventually disappeared. This is a photo of it. You can the white disk near the top of the mountain to the left of center. I have no idea what it is -- the true definition of an unidentified flying object.
