Heaven is hotter than hell

The temperature of Heaven can be rather accurately computed.  Our authority is Isaiah 30:26, "Moreover, the light of the Moon shall be as the light of the Sun and the light of the Sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days."  Thus Heaven receives from the Moon as much radiation as we do from the Sun, and in addition 7*7 (49) times as much as the Earth does from the Sun, or 50 times in all.

The light we receive from the Moon is one 1/10,000 of the light we receive from the Sun, so we can ignore that ... The radiation falling on Heaven will heat it to the point where the heat lost by radiation is just equal to the heat received by radiation, i.e., Heaven loses 50 times as much heat as the Earth by radiation.

Using the Stefan-Boltzmann law for radiation, (H/E)^4 = 50, where E is the absolute temperature of the earth (300K), gives H as 798K (525C).  The exact temperature of Hell cannot be computed ... [However] Revelations 21:8 says "But the fearful, and unbelieving ... shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone."  A lake of molten brimstone means that its temperature must be at or below the boiling point, 444.6C.  We have, then, that Heaven, at 525C is hotter than Hell at 445C.

Keystone Cops in the Bahamas

I had to laugh at yesterday's entry in the Tribune, a newspaper in the Bahamas.  It was about the inept police and just wants to make you shake your head.

Police Car Stolen By Prisoner Left Alone In Back Seat

A POLICE car was stolen yesterday – after a suspect left alone in the car used the key in the ignition to drive away.

After being taken into custody in the early hours of yesterday morning, the suspect saw the key in the ignition, moved into the driver’s seat and drove off.

According to sources, the incident took place at a local store on Carmichael Road.

Officers from the Carmichael Road Police Station went to the scene after a security guard had stopped a man stealing from the premises.

The suspect, according to sources, was then handcuffed by police and put in the police vehicle, while officers remained outside interviewing security. The suspect drove off, said a source.

When reached for comment, Supt Allen Emmanuel of the Carmichael Road Police Station confirmed that a “similar incident” had happened, but directed further inquiries to Assistance Commissioner Leon Bethel.

“Yes, something like that happened,” he confirmed.

Supt Emmanuel said police were informed to refer everything to Mr Bethel.

“He can bring you up to date, fully, and tell you everything about it,” he said.

However, Supt Bethel could not be reached for comment.

Blindsided by Google Adsense

I have a food blog where I identify amazing tastes that I have found.  Like most of my blogs, I let Google put ads on my blogs with their Adsense programs to make money.

I profiled a club sandwich turned into a panini that was amazing in taste, and a Google ad torpedoed the message.  There was a huge "fat" ad on top of my blog entry.  Looking at a fat person turns you off potentially fattening food, and somehow the message of how good the sandwich is, was drowned out by the ad.  Ironic.  As Marshall McLuhan said, the medium is the message.

Movie Review: Before Midnight

I went to see "Before Midnight" starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy last night.  Apparently this is the third movie in a trilogy, nine years later after the first movie.  After the opening scene, the movie moved to a car scene filled with endless dialogue.  I thought that it was going to turn out to be boring artsy-fartsy, self-indulgent, copy-of-a-play loser of a movie.  I was wrong.

First of all, it is quite revolutionary.  There is very little editing.  Maybe there are 5 major scenes throughout the movie, and each scene lasts a long time with a lot of dialogue.  The scenery is rich in Greece.  The characters are rich.  The dialogue is rich.  Solely through the method of dialogue and very little action, the whole of relationships and communications between people is examined.  It is a funny, poignant movie that everyone who is or has been in a relationship can identify with.  There was applause in the theater at the end.

This is a two-thumbs up, four-out-of-five star movie with the added bonus of a very long scene of Julie Delpy topless.  It is worth seeing.

More Lucky and Unlucky Omens

My "frog in the house omen" is one of my most popular blog articles, so I thought that I would include some more omens garnered from my superstitious grandmother.

Here is a bad one:  If a bird flies into your window and dies, someone you know will die. If it hits your window and flies away, something unexpected will happen.

Here is a good one:  If a bee gets in your house, and you let it go, you will have a visitor with happy news,

Here are a few more:

If you see a groundhog, you will see an evil act.

Seeing a rabbit is good luck, and even better if you kill it and eat it.  However if it is a black rabbit, is it a witch and will bring you bad luck.  The left foot of a rabbit is the luckiest and if it is taken from the rabbit carcass during a full moon, it is the luckiest of all (except for the rabbit).

A penny is only lucky if it is lying heads up.  Otherwise leave it be.

If you have two whorls on your head, you will have two spouses in your life.

If you are on a journey, and see a flock of sheep, you will have good luck.

How To Stop Smoking

I quit smoking years ago by going cold turkey.  However, I have just found this stop smoking message that should be ultra-effective.  It could even stop Justin Bieber from smoking whatever he smokes.

Dangers of Flying Local Airlines in the Bahamas

(click picture for larger image)

This Sky Bahamas plane that crashed in Abaco last week.  I have flown local airlines, and once from a flight from Freeport in the middle of a thunderstorm, we dropped about a thousand feet after hitting turbulence and I thought that I was going to die.

I would suggest that if you are in the Bahamas, if you can avoid it at all, do not fly the local airlines.  The above plane landed in Fort Lauderdale Airport and was inspected by the US Federal Aviation Administration.  This is a synopsis of that report:

Inspection at Fort Lauderdale International Airport on August 31, 2012, on Sky Bahamas Airlines Limited, Saab 340 with registration number C6-SBJ, a SF-349-A aircraft, and serial number 110. The following is a list of maintenance discrepancies found during the inspection”
1) Left Main Landing Gear strut, leaking at the scrape seal.
2) Right Stabilizer leading edge de-icing boot patch repair was peeling off.
3) Right Nose Gear door ground wire was broken
4) Left engine propeller delaminated near the propeller tip on two blades.
5) Right Wing outboard of the number 2 engine de-icing boot patch repairs was peeling off.
6) Panel on lower fuselage inboard of the right wing leading edge was delaminated.
7) Another panel alongside item 6 was also delaminated.
8) Aircraft logbook contained several Category “B” MEL [Minimum Equipment List] deferred items that the deferral time was extended.
9) Aircraft arrived in the United States with no MEL Manual on Board.

The head of Sky Bahamas confirmed that the plane is a total write-off.

Makes you think twice about flying local airlines in the Bahamas.  If you have other options, exercise them.  It may save your life.

Nigella Lawson Throat Choke Picture

(click for larger image)

I have always been a Nigella Lawson fan.  I always thought that such a good, beautiful woman was wasted on Charles Saatchi.  So when this picture came out of Charles choking Nigella, I was not surprised.  He always did seem like a creep, and this picture proves it.  He says that he really wasn't squeezing.  Well, I have news for him.  Women should not be grabbed by the throat under any circumstances.  I hope that he gets charged with domestic violence.

One of the Most Scenic Pubs in the World

 Looking back from the boardwalk.

The view from the tables on the patio.

The lonb look back from the falls.

The bridge for the boardwalk.

One of the most scenic beautiful places for a pub with an outdoor patio, is the Barley Mow pub, in Almonte Ontario, Canada.  This is a historic mill town built in the 1850's by Scottish stone masons and weavers on the Mississippi River.  (Note: This is not the American Mississippi River.  Completely different).

The Barley Mow is the site of three historic stone buildings, a railway bridge (now a walkway) and cascading falls on the river.  The scenery is worth the trip, and the food is not bad either.

After The Apocalypse

I was on a deserted, overgrown railway line with my camera.  There were no human sounds.  The thought struck me, that this is what it would be like after the apocalypse, if there ever is one.  It is beautiful and eerie at the same time.

Plane Crash Yesterday in the Bahamas

(click picture for larger image)

This Sky Bahamas plane hit a huge puddle of water yesterday while trying to land in a rain storm in Marsh Harbour Airport in the Abaco Islands of the Bahamas.

(click picture for larger image)

It apparently skidded off the runway and the impact caused a collapse of the landing gear.  Witnesses reported a fireball that quickly extinguished itself and the plane came to a screeching halt.  There were 24 passengers on board.  There were only minor injuries, and Marsh Harbour Airport is closed at this time.

The plane details are:
Make: Saab 340 - MSN 316 - C6-SBJ
Operator Airline:  Sky Bahamas
Status : Active
Registration : C6-SBJ
Serial number 316
Type: 340B
First flight date 10/09/1992
Test registration SE-C16
Plane age 21 years
Seats: 36

This plane has had an interesting career.  On 28/01/1993 she was registered to Hazelton Air Serrvices in New South Wales Australia bearing the tail number VH-LIH.  On 01/08/2002 her registered operators changed to REX Regional Express after the collapse of the parent company of Hazelton Air.  She still carried the tail number VH-LIH.   On 17/06/2004 she was acquired by PenAir and registered with the tail number. N676PA.  She never flew.  She was stored until 01/2011.  On 01/06/2011, she was operated by Sky Bahamas with the tail number C6-SBJ which she still carries today.  Her airworthiness status is presently unknown.

If you are in Nassau this weekend and looking for something to do, why not head down for Da Market run by the Bahamas National Trust.  You can buy all sorts of goodies, plus have a nice time at the Retreat which is an amazing tropical retreat in the middle of the city.  See you there.  Monika's cakes are especially good.

More Crime News From the Bahamas

The carnage continues unabated.  Crime in the Bahamas is out of control, and tourists are not safe.  To the question "Is it safe in the Bahamas?", the resounding answer is "NO!".  Murders happen daily.  Here is today's crime clippings from the Bahamas:

Item 1

THE interruption of US visa services because of the assault and robbery of the American Embassy’s vice consul has sent “shock-waves” through the Bahamas, the opposition FNM said.

Non-immigrant visa services were suspended yesterday following the attack on the 74-year-old diplomat, who police sources identified as Kathleen Cayer. She was attacked as she walked to church Sunday morning. Foreign Affairs Minister Fred Mitchell said according to US officials, her absence from work made it difficult for regular services to continue.

Lambasting the government for failing to keep the peace, FNM MP Hubert Chipman said this was not the only recent attack on a tourist outside the Roman Catholic Cathedral.

Item 2

TWO tourists were robbed in the area of Woodcock Primary on Hospital Lane yesterday, the latest example of a distressing increase in tourist related crimes on the island. The incident occurred around 12:30 pm on Monday.

Item 3

Five years in jail for robbing phone card vendor

A MAN who admitted to mugging a phone card vendor, asked a judge for a chance to turn his life around before a five-year sentence was handed down to him.

The social fabric of the Bahamas is being undone, and nothing can fix it. Crime is out of control.  The scary part is that they will kill you after they rob you.  An American tourist was shot dead two weeks ago.  You take your life into your own hands when you visit the Bahamas.

Crime Situation in the Bahamas

If you are thinking about taking a holiday in the Bahamas, and you will be venturing away from tourist areas, you may want to read this clipping from the Tribune.

POLICE are investigating the discovery of three bodies – one of which was an infant found at the public dump on Saturday, as well as the death of a Fox Hill man who was shot by police on Friday night.
As yet another weekend was marred by crime, crime fears reached a fever pitch with false messages claiming multiple deaths being circulated on social media.
Although there are no official reports that give credibility to the accusations, the messages were being shared by cell phone and internet, warning Bahamians to stay off the street, sources say.
The rumours, which spread rapidly on Facebook, spoke of several persons dying in an alleged gang initiation and that police had reportedly warned Bahamians to stay home.
Police have denied sending out such a warning and have reported no such incidents.
Police did confirm that a 21-year-old man of Fox Dale Subdivision was shot dead by police on Friday evening.
The incident occurred shortly after 6pm in the Fox Hill area and a handgun belonging to the deceased was confiscated, according to police reports.
Sources say the 21-year-old, armed with a handgun, allegedly discharged his weapon in the direction of the officers and was then shot by police.
A body was found at Wulff Road, west of Jerome Avenue, with multiple stab wounds, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The unidentified man was discovered around 1am and police say they are uncertain of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Another body was discovered in waters off Montagu Beach, east of the Nassau Sailing Club, with multiple stab wounds to the upper body.
Police say the body – a woman with dreadlocks – was discovered around 7:20am on Friday. At the present time, police are uncertain of the circumstances surrounding this incident.
The following day, the skeletal remains of an infant were found at the public dump.
An employee made the discovery while working at the site, shortly after 11am.
Sources say the body belonged to an infant female. The worker had been pushing off a pile of rubbish when he spotted a white plastic bag, which he thought looked suspicious.
When the bag was opened, it was found to contain what appeared to be the body of an infant in an advanced state of decomposition, sources say.
It is thought the child was just a few days old.
Police are investigating the discovery of all the bodies and are appealing to members of the public who may have any information that can assist, to contact them.
Police are also investigating a shooting incident that left a 19-year-old man in serious but stable condition in hospital.
Around 4:40am on Saturday, the victim was at Cambridge Lane off Baillou Hill Road when the incident occurred, which resulted in multiple gunshot injuries. He was taken to hospital by EMS.
Three men were taken into police custody on Friday in connection with an armed robbery of a conch vendor at Zion Boulevard, east of Baillou Hill Road.
Around 2:40pm on Friday, the vendor was approached by four men inside a blue hatchback car. Two of the men, one of whom was allegedly armed with a handgun, got out of the car and robbed the victim of jewellery and cash.
Police arrested the men and confiscated a firearm after their car crashed in the area of Resurrection Drive.
Police are also reporting that operation “Blitz and Firestorm” resulted in 19 arrests and 95 drivers in New Providence being cited for various infractions.
The operation was conducted on Saturday and saw persons arrested for questioning in reference to armed robbery, housebreaking, dangerous drugs, and on outstanding warrants.
An unofficial report of a robbery of a Wulff Road business was also reported to The Tribune. Employees of a local business were reportedly robbed of cash by a gunman who escaped on a motorcycle. Police said they had no reports of such an incident but would look into the matter.

Another One of My Happy Pictures

(click for larger image)

I bang around the world a lot -- the Caribbean, Europe, Canada and the US.  What makes me happy is summer days in the north country.  Here we have a meandering oxbow stream running through a beaver meadow in the north country.  This photo makes me happy.

I don't eat pork chops any more ...

In a zoo in California , a mother tiger gave birth
to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs.
Due to complications in the pregnancy,

the cubs were born prematurely
and due to their tiny size,
they died shortly after birth.

The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery,

suddenly started to decline in health,
Although physically she was fine.

The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter
had caused the tigress to fall into a depression.
The doctors decided
that if the tigress could surrogate
another mother's cubs,
perhaps she would improve.

After checking with many other zoos across the country,
the depressing news was that there were no tiger cubs
of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother...
The veterinarians decided to try something
that had never been tried in a zoo environment.
Sometimes a mother of one species
will take on the care of a different species.
The only orphans that could be found quickly,
were a litter of weanling pigs.
The zoo keepers and vets
wrapped the piglets in tiger skin
and placed the babies around the mother tiger...
Would they become cubs or pork chops?

Take a look...you won't believe your eyes.

Now, please tell me one more time ...
Why can't the rest of the world get along?

Impressionists Had It Right - The Colors That You Don't See

(click for larger images)

I took this dramatic photo with my underwater camera while I was standing in the surf on Cabbage Beach in the Bahamas.  I had just been spearfishing and filming underwater.  When I emerged, I saw this rainstorm off in the distance.  I fired a single frame, and it provided the dramatic picture.

Just on a whim, I fed it into photoshop and dialed up the saturation.  Imagine my surprise when the colors showed up.  The impressionist painters had it right.  Somehow they could see the colors that are muted and hidden from the rest of us.  There are orange, yellows, greens, magentas and of course, a zillion shades of blue.

The impressionists really had it right when it came to color, light and painting.

This Dude Stole $2.8 million in Gold and is in the Bahamas.

If you are in Nassau, keep your eyes peeled for this dude.  He stole $2.8 million in gold.

UNITED States authorities are searching for an alleged “violent criminal” they believe is hiding in New Providence.

Detective Jimmy Mckee of the Coral Gables Police Department said they received information that Raonel Valdez Valhuerdis was hiding somewhere in New Providence or on a neighbouring island after he jumped bail in March.

Valhuerdis, 34, disappeared after he was charged with planning a $2.8 million armed gold robbery in Coral Gables – also missing is the gold he is accused of stealing.

According to international reports, Valhuerdis and two other men began casing George Villegas, a courier for the Bolivian-based export company, Quri Wasi.

The company buys gold from small businesses and then melts it down and sells it to South Florida refineries.

When contacted by The Tribune, private investigator David Bolton, who was hired by the company to find the gold, said Valhuerdis is extremely dangerous as he was wearing an ankle bracelet at the time of his escape for allegedly attacking his former girlfriend,

“The people who hired me are offering a $25,000 reward for his arrest and capture and they would be glad to pay it once he has been found. He is dangerous to the public and has a history of violence,” he said.

Valhuerdis was first arrested in June 2007 for marijuana possession. A year later he was arrested in Hialeah after police found a baggie of 85 grams of methamphetamine attached to the lid of his car’s fuel tank. That case was later dropped.

In July 2008, he was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He skipped out on his bond and left the country.

In October 2012, he was one of several suspected armed Cuban migrant smugglers arrested in Cancun. Miami Dade police arrested him at the Miami International Airport in July 2011.

He was later convicted for the assault charge, but only spent 74 days in jail.

Valhuerdis was arrested again in May 2012 for armed robbery. Police say he held a knife to his ex-girlfriend’s throat and robbed her.

He was outfitted with an ankle monitor that placed him at the scene of the $2.8 million gold robbery.

He was granted $75,000 bond and was equipped with a second GPS ankle monitor. A day later he vanished.

Mr Bolton said investigations have led him and the police to believe that Valhuerdis is in the Bahamas.

Commercial Idea -- Wallpaper and Fabric Patterns from Nature

(click for larger image)

Cast your mind back a few years.  All of the stylish women were wearing leopard prints.  There were leopard print shoes, leopard print purses, leopard print dresses and coats, and even hair brush handles were leopard prints.

Well here's another pattern from nature.  This is a tree fungus.  I could see this as a wallpaper pattern or a dress pattern.  It is a funky pattern produced by Mother Nature.  It would make a great camouflage pattern as well.

An Incredibly Sad Ending to a Happy Story

I was flying back to Canada from Nassau in the Bahamas, and an old friend at the airport was taking rescue dogs back to Canada.  They were Bahamian potcakes, wild dogs that run in the streets.  These puppies were in bad shape and starving when they were rescued.  A couple from St. Catherine's Ontario, Canada were adopting them.

The couple went back to the Bahamas in Exuma.  They were hit and killed by a drunk, unlicensed, uninsured Bahamian driver who left the scene of the accident.  The driver is related to the mailboat captain and the police, and as a result this murderer is going scot-free.  The Bahamian government is so corrupt that they will not prosecute.  Everything is for sale in this third world banana republic, and the Bahamians have no shame, civic pride or sense of responsibility.  This is indeed a sad story.
